Okay, I know I'm going to sound goofy here!
What is the difference between Trust and Faith when it comes to the Lord?
Does it mean the same thing, or are they 2 different actions?
Thank you for the clarification!!
Love,
diana
You don't sound goofy at all. Words MEAN things and we need to look at the words God uses so that we can understand what He is saying. There is basically no difference between the two words. The
real issue is
in WHOM or in WHAT we place that trust or faith.
Lets take a look at a few verses for clarification:
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the
faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by
the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through
the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
We place our trust in what God has already accomplished FOR us thru Christs finished work on the Cross. But look at the above verses closely. It is the "faithfulness of Christ" that justifies us...in other words...His faithfulness in meeting all the standards of righteousness FOR us, is what we are trusting. It isn't our faith, but
our trusting in HIS faithfulness. He got the job done on Calvary and I am simply RESTING in what HE has already accomplished FOR ME.
Faith must have a reliable OBJECT. Faith in faith is NOT saving faith. Faith in the performance of another as the basis for your being declared righteous is the faith that God is looking for.
The thing I want you to see is that everything is based on the faithfulness of Christ Jesus and what He did on the Cross. THAT is what allows God to JUSTIFY US thru the performance of another on our behalf. We have no righteousness of our own, but Christs righteousness is IMPUTED unto us thru our believing that what He did WAS indeed sufficient to meet Gods standard. Had it NOT been sufficient, Christ would NOT have risen from the dead. The FACT that He rose from the dead is PROOF that God accepted His payment in FULL for all our sins: Past, present AND future! Christs faithfulness, or test score, is put on OUR paper. That is GRACE.
Does this help?
